Construction begins

The weeks of February 13th & 20th

After leveling off the site, crews start work on digging the foundation for the new Education Building.

A panaramic view of the leveled foundation as seen from the edge of the playground.

April 14, 2011

Digging the trenches that will take the concrete for the foundation.

April 18, 2011

The trenches are shaped and framed before the concrete is poured.

April 20, 2011

The concrete is poured. A pumping vehicle extends its arm like a giant spider to deliver concrete at the edge of the construction site near the church.

May 23, 2011

The basic conduits for the buildings electrical systems are integrated into the work on the building's foundation.

June 3 & 6, 2011

During a brief interval when activity slowed waiting for electrical and plumbing inspections, workers check blueprints and Quentin Smith, who is supervising the building, gets ready for the next phase -- pouring the floors..

............................................................................................................

June 6, 2011

Construction crews pour the footings for the load-bearing walls of the building. The floor is next.

............................................................................................................

A boom carries concrete to the site where the floor is being poured.

Claire Mansfield and Quentin Smith watch the operation.

June 14, 2011

As the concrete flows into place, workers scramble to guide it to its final spot.

A laser system (left) insures that the floor will be level.

The concrete may be poured by laser, but good old-fashioned hand labor makes sure the floor is as flat as can be, and machines similar to the Zamboni at a hockey rink work out every wrinkle.

June 22, 2011

The steel frames for the outer walls are delivered and construction begins.

............................................................................................................

June 28, 2011

The steel framework inches its way around the foundation of the new education building.

............................................................................................................

The framing around the perimeter of the education building is complete.

............................................................................................................

July 6, 2011

Framing for the interior walls begins.

July 18: Capping the first floor

July 20-29: First beams and then plates... the first floor is readied to receive the second floor.

September 23, 2012

After a summer hiatus, construction continued on the second floor of the building as the metal shell was installed frame by frame.

October 2012

Insulation was being installed and the building was taking shape.

October 10, 2012

This is the date the first roof trusses were lifted into place. Work would now take on a more furious pace.

November-December 2011

The windows were installed in the structure the week of November 10th. As this work proceeded, workers prepared the roof with plywood and weatherproofing. The photo on the right was taken December 1, 2011.

Christmas Brings Bricks

Starting before Christmas the week of December 16th, and continuing around the building until the shot of the right, taken December 29th, the brick work encompassed the entire building by the beginning of the new year, 2012.
