Nursery Staff Recognition. Each year we ask the parents who have children in the nursery/childcare to make a donation for a Christmas gift to the nursery staff. This year we would like to give each nursery worker a gift card. All donations are greatly appreciated. If each family donates $10, it would provide $1 per worker. We also ask that you provide a personal card for your child’s classroom teachers. Put the staff member’s name on the card. Drop off your donation and card in the box labeled “Nursery Gift” by the front desk in Eller Hall. Deadline is Sunday, December 16th.
Bring the Holidays to Children! Children’s Ministry is partnering with Connections of Cumberland County to sponsor a few children this Christmas. After Thanksgiving check the bulletin board next to Room 209 for a Christmas tree with tags of requested items, including clothing and shoes. If you would like to donate money for gifts, please contact Britany Spivey. Gifts are due December 16th.

Our ministries for children and their families offer an active and dynamic time from ages birth through 5th grade. Children’s Ministries are staffed by well-trained volunteer teachers who bring engaging, creative energy to their classrooms. Children and their families from our church and community are invited to participate in any of our children’s ministry programs.

Our mission for children and their families is to provide Christian growth by nurturing their personal relationship with Jesus Christ through education, service to others, and fellowship.

Basic information for first time visitors
On Sunday morning, child care is available for infants and children up to age four, from 8:00 AM to 12:15 PM. There are church Sunday School classes held for children who are two and older in their rooms, from 9:45 – 10:40 AM. Elementary aged children have Sunday School on the second floor. For any child care purpose, the nursery begins welcoming children 15 minutes prior to the start time. Please pick up your children as soon as you can after your scheduled event. We also offer specialized programs for children of certain ages during worship services. On Wednesday evenings we have a meal from 5:00-6:00 PM. Children’s choirs and Bible time classes take place between 6:00-7:00 PM. Parents, we offer many classes just for you. Please check out our adult ministry section.

Get Ready! Get Set! Worship!
1st and 2nd Graders
Classes take place April 10, 17, 24, and May 1 during the Sunday School hour in Room 210

Parents are invited to join four classes that focus on the preparation for worship. The purpose is to interactively introduce children and parents to the Sanctuary, theology, practice of worship, and the Sacraments. Class is open to any 2nd or 3rd graders who have not participated before. At the end of this 4 week study, on May 8th, our children are introduced to their church family and presented with a Bible from their Children’s Ministry. Please contact the Director of Children’s Ministry immediately if your child has an interest in participating.

Junior Ushers
3rd Graders – 5th Graders
The usher’s primary mission is to serve. Ushers serve the Lord by recognizing their spiritual gifts, and enthusiastically investing them into the ministry of the church. The junior usher ministry is comprised of young people ready to serve; not allowing their age to limit their abilities. They are trained and always able to set an example for the believers in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity. Parents will receive training information soon.

Becoming involved in Children’s Ministry
At First Presbyterian Church, we are blessed to have a wonderful program which simply could not exist without the assistance and support of parents and other members of the congregation. To help with our important responsibility of educating our children in the faith, we ask for parents or other care givers to be available to help in the following ways:

  • Sunday School Leader – It is expected that all children will have a parent or other adult available to help out in the classroom as needed (a good guideline would be to help in the classroom 3-4 times each year). Our child protection policy dictates that two adults be present in each class.
  • Wednesday Evening Bible Time Leader – very similar responsibilities as Sunday School Leaders.
  • Children’s Church Leader – During service we offer a wonderful ministry to children in Kindergarten and First Grade. We ask parents to help lead this ministry. A good guideline would be to help in the classroom 3-4 times each year.
  • As a Substitute – There are times throughout the year when our teachers are unavailable to teach, whether due to travel, illness or last minute emergency. We ask each class to have a “designated sub” that can be available to help out on short notice in case of a teacher’s absence. From time to time, e-mails will be sent to classes requesting a substitute.
There are plenty of opportunities to help spiritually deve
  • lop the children of our congregation. Please contact the Director of Children’s Ministry for more details and volunteer needs.
